Light snow blankets Metro Detroit, with more snow expected overnight into Friday morning

4Weather warn – Light snow fell across much of the region Thursday afternoon and early Thursday evening, leaving a light layer of snow on grassy areas and elevated areas, as well as on sidewalks.

But we expect more snow to move into the region overnight Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Friday

Expect snow to spread across the region around or after midnight Friday morning and persist during the Friday morning commute until about lunchtime.

With temperatures below freezing this will create a situation similar to recent weeks where we will see snow covered roads, causing travel issues as we head into Friday morning on the way to work in of school in most places on the last day before the start of the holidays.

Before it’s all said and done Friday midday through early afternoon, we’re looking at a widespread 1 to 3 inches of snow, and some locations north of I-69 could see higher amounts where bands of snow will take longer to form.

Friday afternoon into Friday evening as this clipper system moves east, we will turn this into another lake effect snow event.

A northwesterly flow will begin and there is a chance of a few snow showers.

Weekend forecast

Overnight loads Friday night into Saturday morning will fall well into the teens, meaning the snow that does fall will continue through the weekend.

High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will only reach into the mid 20s before we begin warming up and look toward early next week.
