Lionel Messi finally had to say hello to his namesake when the football legend was linked to Pop -ikon -Lionel Richie.

The Argentina star was named by his mother after Crooner Richie.

And she decided to call son Messi in his honor.

Amazingly, the couple had never met before.

However, that changed when the couple linked themselves for the first time on Friday evening.

Richie has posted several photos on social media in which he shakes Messi at an event.

The couple smiled when they exchanged courtesy.

And Richie went online to express his joy about her interaction.

However, the fans were less sure whether Messi had really been named after Richie.

One said, “Is that true?”

Richie had previously stated that Messi had actually been named after him.
