Long Islanders share their favorite holiday movies in a new survey

Long Islanders have spoken out and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is the most popular holiday movie in a survey conducted by Greater Long Island.

Readers had the opportunity to vote for up to three of their favorite films, and the results reflected a mix of timeless classics and modern holiday classics.

“Elf” and “Home Alone” secured second and third place, respectively. Rounding out the top five were “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Story.”

Here are the 11 best holiday movies as voted by readers, along with the percentage of votes each received:

  2. Eleven – 13.36%
  3. Home alone – 11.40%
  4. It’s a wonderful life – 7.82%
  5. A Christmas story – 7.49%
  6. Die Hard – 4.89%
  7. Miracle on 34th Street (1947) – 4.23%
  8. The Polar Express – 3.91%
  9. March of the Wooden Soldiers – 3.58%
  10. (Bind) How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – 3.26%
  11. (Bind) Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – 3.26%
