Morton replaces Ben Johnson, who was hired as head coach of Chicago Bears.

Morton was head coach Dan Campbells Lions -Staff in 2022 before joining Sean Payton in 2023.

Morton was also an assistant to the Saints (as a wide -wing receiver trainer) for Payton’s employee when Campbell was the deputy head coach/Tight -end trainer in 2016.

Previously, Morton was an offensive coordinator in the NFL at the New York Jets. He was also an offensive coordinator at USC for two seasons (2009-10).

The Lions lost both their offensive and defensive coordinators this month when the defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was hired as head coach of the New York Jets.
