LSU QB, former 4-star recruit, is reportedly entering the transfer portal

LSU appears to be losing a former top recruit to the transfer portal. After the Tigers ended the regular season with a win over Oklahoma, quarterback Rickie Collins announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.

Collins was rated as a 4-star prospect out of Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, LA. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Collins was the No. 18 QB and No. 14 prospect from Louisiana in the 2023 class. Collins received interest from Florida State, Arkansas, Georgia Tech and others before committing to his hometown team.

The QB was a redshirt freshman in 2024 and will have three years of eligibility left. Collins played sparingly, sitting behind Jayden Daniels in 2023 and Garrett Nussmeier in 2024. At the start of the 24 season, Collins competed with AJ Swann for the backup role, and Swann came on when Nussmeier was injured against Oklahoma.

Collins will finish his LSU career having completed all seven pass attempts for 38 yards. The dual-threat QB also ran seven times for 37 yards in two seasons.

With Collins moving, this could be a sign that Nussmeier will return to Baton Rouge in 2025. If Nussmeier intended to enter the draft, one would assume Collins would be in the starting lineup next season.

The portal will officially open on December 9th.
