Maggie from the FBI had to make a devastating decision, but I'm much more curious about the villain from her past

Spoilers ahead for episode 6 of FBI Season 7 titled “Perfect” which will be available for streaming Paramount+ subscription.

FBI returned from a week’s break in 2024 with an episode that was somehow even darker than usual, featuring a serial killer whose method of murder was the victims’ “involuntary hysterectomy”… that is, cutting out a woman’s uterus while she was still alive . Add in a creepy doctor, and there’s a lot going on in “Perfect” leading up to that Maggie to make the devastating decision that Ella was supposed to move in with her uncle’s family. However, the episode also introduced a villain who was the first man she ever arrested and was still obsessed with her, and I’m officially excited for the 2025 TV schedule.

The team initially decided to investigate men who were known to have stabbed women but had not yet been arrested for killing people when they were led to do so Ray Distefanodescribed as a “serial slasher”. Maggie recognized him and revealed that he had defaced ten women before he was captured and convicted of grievous bodily harm twelve years earlier. He was released a month before the arrest of the new serial killer’s victims began.

Maggie and O.A They burst through his door, but instead of finding Distefano waiting for them, they discovered dozens of photos of Maggie and Ella that had been taken from a distance, apparently without their knowledge. He had been watching her. OA realized there was a lot more to the story than just Maggie catching him, and she told a little more:

He was my first arrest. We got a tip that he was stalking a new victim, so we intercepted him outside her house one night and he escaped. I chased him onto a train. You know, I had no support and got touchy, but I took him down. However, his obsession with his victims was directed towards me. He wrote me letters from prison for years.

It wasn’t until the partners brought Distefano into the interrogation room that OA realized that she had truly underestimated what had happened between them when she said that things had “become a breeze.” The serial slasher mocked them while OA tried to get his attention, then proved that watching Maggie and Ella didn’t mean he knew everything about them. When he commented that OA wasn’t Maggie’s “baby daddy,” he wanted to know who left her alone with Ella.

He then gave himself a very rough version of an alibi by pointing out that when he cut women, he wanted the cuts to be visible and not hidden on corpses. He said:

You don’t really think I did that, do you? All these girls, their cuts are hidden by their pretty little dresses… face, that’s the best part. Breast. hands. I just want to be remembered. You never forgot me, Maggie. Because of this nice little reminder I gave you.

She further responded that “the scar is gone,” which Distefano said was not possible because he “marked her deeply.” She insisted it was healing, but didn’t give in when he asked to see it. Then he spat in her face as she repeated that the mark was gone, and I’m about half convinced whether I believe her or not. He obviously didn’t hurt her hands or face, otherwise he wouldn’t have demanded that she “show” him. Could he have slashed her chest?

Maggie’s wardrobe as FBI generally does not feature plunging necklines, so it is possible that she still has a scar and FBI Distefano introduced here, only to revisit him later as Maggie’s nemesis. Or maybe FBI I only introduced him as a one-off villain to create doubts in Maggie’s mind about whether she should keep Ella, and the agent is actually 100% cured.

Whatever the full story is, I would be very interested to see it continued in a future episode. FBI However, it is generally not serialized to follow plots from week to week Tiffis obsessed with obtaining justice Hobbs lasted the entire sixth season. I think that’s a safe bet FBI will at least continue to explore Maggie’s journey as a mother after she decides that Ella should stay with her uncle. It was a devastating decision that earned them more than an evening of ice cream for dinner, and certainly not the end of the emotional story.
