“Make your world better” 72-year-old woman travels to North Carolina for the third time

OSHKOSH (NBC 26) – While many people spent Black Friday shopping, one Oshkosh woman spent the day thinking about families 1,000 miles away.

  • Susie Lloyd is heading to North Carolina for the third time on Saturday, November 30th.
  • As part of a toy drive for 1,700 children, Lloyd will bring gifts to the children.
  • Lloyd says she won’t stop helping those affected by hurricane damage.

Friends of Susie Lloyd say she has a heart of gold.
“When she sees people in distress who need help, she is the first to help them,” says Carla Schreiber.

Schreiber accompanied Lloyd at the Hangar Bar on Black Friday to load a trailer full of toys, generators and other supplies.

“We don’t have the resources to do everything, but we do have the resources to do something,” Lloyd said.

Lloyd and two others will drive the trailer in mountainous areas of North Carolina on Saturday. It will be Lloyd’s third trip bringing hurricane relief to the state.

“When we got to the warehouse, they just started crying because they couldn’t believe that someone 1,000 miles away would care so much,” she says.

Lloyd says a friend she met at EAA lives in North Carolina and showed her the extent of the damage via Facebook.

“I couldn’t sleep because I knew some of what he was telling me and showing me…So when you can’t sleep, you have to act,” she says.

Lloyd’s third trip will bring gifts to the children in the area.

“My family and friends will have a tree full of presents and so they have something to distract them, they don’t have a home, they sleep in a tent, they go to the toilet in a five-gallon water tank bucket,” says Lloyd . “Anything to make their world better.”

And Lloyd says Oshkosh was willing to help.

“These children have really lost a lot and they need a good Christmas, they need something,” says Schreiber.

Lloyd says you can donate through a North Carolina couple’s Facebook page.
