Malaysia Aviation Group unveils new Airbus A330neo for long-haul flights

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, today celebrated the arrival of its first Airbus A330-900 (A330neo). This milestone is part of MAG’s ongoing fleet modernization strategy. The aircraft, registered 9M-MNG, took off from the Airbus Delivery Center in Toulouse, France at 8:52 p.m. local time on November 28, 2024 and landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 4:52 p.m. local time on November 29. . 2024.

As a mark of its majesty, the aircraft was escorted by a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighter jet, which treated aviation enthusiasts to a breathtaking flyby. Upon arrival, the aircraft received a traditional water salute.

Flight MH5039 lasted 13 hours and was piloted by Captain Khairul Syukri Khalid, Captain Azim Sham Che Din, Captain Zainuddin Hussein and Captain Najwan Reshan Nahdan Rengganathan.

MAG’s new A330neo is equipped with 297 seats, including 28 Business Class seats and 269 Economy Class seats, 24 of which offer additional legroom. This aircraft is used on long-haul routes within Asia and Australasia.

In August 2022, MAG entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon for the acquisition of 20 A330neo aircraft. Delivery is scheduled to continue until 2028.
