Man charged with attempted second-degree murder after stabbing

CHARLES TOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 911 emergency call escalated into a violent crime investigation on Sunday, December 1, when Charles Town Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Shutter Street.

When officers responded, the call was upgraded to a stabbing in progress.

Upon arrival, the first officer encountered a man covered in blood walking on the roadway. Witnesses identified him as a suspect.

Another man was found lying on the road nearby with multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, later identified as Juan Luis Garcia Aviles, 33, of no fixed address, was immediately arrested.

Officers administered first aid to the victim, who was transported by EMS to a designated landing zone and then flown to an out-of-state trauma center for further treatment.

The area was secured and the Charles Town Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was assigned to investigate the scene.

After an initial investigation, Garcia Aviles was charged with attempted second-degree murder, malicious wounding and attempted grand larceny.

He was released by medical staff at Jefferson Medical Center before being transported to the Eastern Regional Jail.

Garcia Aviles is being held on a $100,000 bond set by Magistrate D’Angelo.

Authorities have said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
