Man charged with murder of ex-wife in 2018 is back in custody years after fleeing the Houston area

A man accused of murdering his ex-wife Charine Wilson in 2018 is back in custody after years on the run.

Johnny Leon Wilson, 48, is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. Authorities arrested him in Grand Prairie, Texas, thanks to the efforts of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.

Charine Wilson, 29, was last seen at Johnny Wilson’s apartment at 8950 Glencrest St. on November 10, 2018.

Her son told investigators that she entered the apartment while he was waiting in the car. A few moments later, Johnny Wilson left the apartment alone, drove Charine’s vehicle to a fast food restaurant, dropped the boy off and disappeared.

Charine was reported missing by her family on November 12, 2018. Her mother confirmed that her body was discovered days later in a ditch near Richland in Navarro County. She had been shot multiple times.

On November 14, 2018, a warrant was issued for Johnny Wilson’s arrest and he was charged in connection with her murder. He was arrested on February 17, 2019, but fled the Houston area after posting bail.

Justice will continue

After years of evading authorities, Johnny Wilson was located and arrested on December 2nd.

He was booked into the Grand Prairie Police Department Jail and is awaiting extradition to Harris County to face charges.

Houston police praise law enforcement cooperation in getting Wilson back into custody.

Investigators continue to reconstruct the events that led to Charine’s death as her family calls for justice and peace.
