According to court documents, the woman who was shot told police she was the passenger in her husband’s car and that they were picking up a friend near the intersection of Franklin Avenue South and Chicago Avenue South.

While driving, the husband noticed a white Ford Fusion following him and stopped his car near the intersection of Franklin and Park Avenue. While he was parked, the Fusion hit him from behind. A Volkswagen also approached his car and tried to force him in, but he was able to drive away.

Near the intersection of 19th Street East and Park Avenue South, the two cars tried to stop him again. The husband told police he saw the Volkswagen driver looking for something in his car and recognized him as Gross and the Fusion driver as someone he had been arguing with for a year.

Gross fired five shots at the car, and the woman was hit by a bullet in the lower back and had to be taken to the hospital.

On December 5, 2023, police saw Gross driving his gray Jetta on 19th Street East and 15th Avenue South in Minneapolis and initiated a traffic stop. He was taken into custody without incident.

“This incident resulted in physical injury to a victim and could easily have resulted in loss of life as a result of Mr. Gross’s actions,” said Hennepin County Prosecutor Mary Moriarty. “His actions require accountability to ensure the safety of the community, and I am pleased that our office was able to secure guilty verdicts against him on all five counts.”

Gross had multiple convictions for violent crimes before the 2023 shooting.

His sentencing is currently scheduled for December 18 at 1:15 p.m
