Man dies after head-on collision with van carrying four teenagers and young adults in Idaho

Idaho State Police responded to a fatal crash Friday that left one man dead and four other people injured.

COUER D’ALENE – A man was killed after the white 2000 Honda CR-V he was driving crashed head-on into a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country in northern Idaho on Friday.

Idaho State Police are investigating the two-fatal vehicle crash that occurred on eastbound Idaho Highway 58 near milepost 1.5 in Kootenai County at approximately 12:26 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the CR-V was traveling westbound on ID-58, exited left of center and collided head-on with the Town & Country van, which was traveling eastbound on ID-58.

The Honda was driven by a 31-year-old man from Aberdeen, Washington, who was the only occupant. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries at the scene of the accident.

The Chrysler was driven by a 20-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington. Also in the Chrysler were a 22-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington, an 18-year-old woman from Spokane Valley, Washington, and a 17-year-old man from Moscow, Idaho. All occupants of the Chrysler were wearing seatbelts and were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Traffic on ID-58 was closed in both directions for approximately 3.5 hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

The deceased’s next of kin have been notified.

This crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
