Man injured, dog killed in hit-and-run accident on Jersey Shore – NBC10 Philadelphia

A man was seriously injured and his dog was killed after he was struck by a car in Atlantic County early Saturday morning, according to Absecon police.

According to police, the accident occurred shortly after midnight on November 30 at the intersection of Highland Boulevard and Marlborough Avenue in Absecon, New Jersey.

The accident caused traffic delays in the area for about four hours, officials said.

The man struck, 25-year-old Syed Hoque of Absecon, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police. The dog died.

Police said the driver did not remain at the scene, but another driver called 911 to report the accident.

Investigators searched the area and were able to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Absecon Police Department officers arrested Byron Jones, 51, of Mays Landing, during a traffic stop in connection with the accident.

The Absecon Police Traffic Safety Unit and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the accident.
