Man sentenced to life in prison for 2022 murder in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) – A man convicted of a 2022 murder in Fairmont was sentenced Tuesday to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Naquan Warren, 34, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the October 2022 killing of 28-year-old Sean Gardiner, according to Marion County Prosecutor Jeffrey Freeman.

In August, a jury found Warren guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, assault during the commission of a felony, burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony after he beat Gardiner to death with a baseball bat during a planned robbery.

During Warren’s sentencing on Tuesday, his requests for acquittal or a new trial were denied by Judge Patrick Wilson, Freeman said.

Wilson sentenced Warren to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder and to a definitive sentence of 70 years, consecutive or consecutive to the life sentence, for robbery, Freeman said.

Warren was also sentenced to two to 10 years for assault during the commission of a felony, one to 15 years for burglary, and one to five years for conspiracy to commit a felony, all to run concurrently with the 70-year sentence for robbery.

Shekea Fox, Warren’s co-defendant and conspirator, was sentenced to more than 70 years in prison for her role in the crime. Fox was also initially charged with murder, but she took a deal and testified in Warren’s murder trial in August.
