Man who was killed after the car when he drove to the police on the I-55 and I-240, says MPD, says MPD | News

Memphis, tenn. – A fatal crash made an important interstate in Memphis this weekend after a man who tried to flee from the police was hit and killed by a vehicle.

The incident now issues new questions about how traffic and activities are processed.

According to the Memphis police authority (MPD), the officials attempted a traffic stop at around 1:19 p.m. on Saturday around 1:19 p.m. near the I-55 South and the I-240 West.

Before the officials could approach, MPD said that the man left his vehicle and pushed over the highway.

Moments later he was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu from 2018 and declared dead at the crime scene.

No officials were injured during the incident. All traces of traffic west in I-240 and I-55 have been closed for hours, while the police examined, but has been reopened since then.

While the investigators were working on clarifying the scene, a bigger discussion was created within the community whether the persecution should continue.

Zina Clark, a resident of Memphis, described the situation as shocking.

“Wow,” said Clark.

She believes that the incident emphasizes a growing need for improved officer training when it comes to high-pressure situations.

“I just think that the police need better training for escalated situations,” said Clark.

Clark also asked if it is always necessary to pursue suspects on busy interstates.

“If you have a person and you are on the highway and follow you, if it is not a situation for life and death, you should let you go,” she added.

The Memphis police confirmed that the examination is still not completed.
