Maple Leafs vs. Devils prediction, tips and odds for today’s NHL game

A regular season win is in sight for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they welcome the New Jersey Devils to Scotia Bank Arena. Auston Matthews will be wide-eyed as he will be expected to carry a heavy load in John Tavares’ absence.

We have a busy 13-game NHL betting slate tonight, including an Eastern Conference showdown between the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotia Bank Arena.

Former Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe returns to Toronto tonight as the Devils bench boss is favored to win with his team, but it’s the Auston Matthews goal market that has my eye on my Buds best bet tonight our Maple Leafs vs. Devils predictions.

My Leafs analysis

The Toronto Maple Leafs look to stop a three-game deficit tonight when they host Sheldon Keefe and the New Jersey Devils at Scotia Bank Arena.

The Buds have had a lot of success against New Jersey, winning seven of the last ten games against the Devils while averaging 3.6 goals per game.

The Leafs are also 2-0 against them this season, having blown Keefe’s home debut in October and picking up a 2-1 overtime win on Dec. 10. However, Toronto will need some help from top offensive players to finish out the season. Especially with John Tavares now out every week with a knee injury.

That means it’s time for Auston Matthews to contribute to the Leafs team like he did a year ago when he scored 69 goals.

Fortunately, the Leafs captain has performed extremely well against this Devils team throughout his career, scoring 19 goals in 20 games against them and scoring in five of his last six games against Jersey. He has also beaten projected starter Jacob Markstrom eight times in 15 meetings against the Swedish goaltender.

Matthews has also been scoring regularly since returning from another serious back injury, scoring four goals in six games, including Toronto’s only goal the other night against Dallas.

Additionally, I usually take this value whenever the books are willing to pay plus money (+120) for the triple rocket winner to score in a game, as this rarely happens.

Maple Leafs vs. Devils – Same Game Parlay (SGP)

Sports interaction

Auston Matthews a goal at any time

Auston Matthews 3+ shots

Bobby McMann 2+ shots

For the first leg of the SGP we stick with the best bet and take Auston Matthews, who scores a goal at any time.

Next, we’ll move on to the Matthews prop market and get him to record 3+ shots. AM34 is averaging 3.86 shots per game this season and has reached that number in 15 of his 20 career appearances against New Jersey.

In the final section of our SGP, let’s work with Bobby McMann to get more than two shots on goal. He has had 23 multi-shot games in his last 29 outings, giving him a 79% win rate on this side bet. Additionally, with the game taking place on home ice, there should be some favorable offensive zone starts on this third line, giving them a better chance to generate offense and get shots on goal.
