Mass. Driver rams car into home on South Main Street in Concord

CONCORD, NH – A Massachusetts man was arrested Sunday evening after he was accused of driving drunk and crashing his car into a home on South Main Street.

Shortly before 8:45 p.m., firefighters and police were dispatched to an accident in the area of the intersection of Broadway and Wiggins Street after a driver crashed his car into the side of a home on South Main Street. After the vehicle crashed, a witness claimed the driver was “quite visibly drunk,” according to the statement. The first officer to arrive confirmed the address as South Main Street.

The officer checked a Ford Fusion with a Massachusetts license plate and said the driver was a man from Lynn, MA.

Concord Fire and Rescue crews were also called in, although the driver said they were fine.

Officials confirmed that the car hit the house.

“It’s in the house,” an officer said.

The fire chief told dispatch that there was “a significant structural problem with the foundation.”

Police began searching the immediate area and discovered part of a tire was missing from the car. The officer told others the driver appeared to have hit something else, possibly on Broadway, before driving into the home.

When they arrived, firefighters checked the driver and the home’s foundation. An official said the car destroyed a large portion of the south side of the house’s foundation.

A second officer said the driver would undergo a sobriety test after being examined by emergency responders.

A third officer checked Broadway from West Street to the accident scene and did not find any additional accident damage. The intersection of Broadway and Rockingham Street was also closed.

After about 15 minutes of field sobriety testing, the second officer said the driver was being arrested. The officer stated that the driver urinated on himself during a search.

News 603 posted video of the scene on Facebook.

Firefighters set up lights and worked to shore up and stabilize the home. A tow truck was also called to the scene of the accident. One resident was also helped to leave his home.

According to scanner chatter, New Hampshire State Police also arrived to assist police with a blood draw.
