Massachusetts could see some snow this week – here’s how and when

It’s the last month of the year and it seems Mother Nature knows it. After a clear and cold start to the week, Massachusetts could see a few inches of snow on Wednesday evening.

Sunny skies with highs above 30 degrees are forecast for most of the state during the day through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper teens and lower 20s through Tuesday evening.

However, the weather is expected to change later on Wednesday. According to the weather service, the Berkshires can expect the first snow as early as 1 p.m. this afternoon. The rest of Massachusetts is not expected to see snow until Wednesday evening.

Inland areas will likely see more snow, while Greater Boston, the I-95 corridor and communities near the coast can expect more rain, according to National Weather Service forecaster Bryce Williams. It is not expected to be a major weather event as the weather service is currently forecasting only 2 to 10 cm of snow, he said.

The snow and rain is expected to continue into Thursday morning, resulting in slick road conditions, Williams said. Drivers should exercise caution while commuting Thursday morning, he said.

According to the weather service, the snow and rain are expected to taper off by the end of Thursday morning, meaning the state will experience slightly colder temperatures through the weekend. Sunny skies are forecast for Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the upper 20s and lower 30s during the day and lows in the mid to upper teens at night.
