Mcneese Men’s Basketball Student Manager becomes viral | Acadiana at home

During his two years as a student manager of the McNeese State University Men’s Basketball team, the native of Lake Charles Amir Khan often joked that he held a deal to use his name, image and its resemblance.

Khan’s joke became a reality at the end of February when he became the first student manager of a college sports team to secure a NIL deal. The Senior Sports Management Major has achieved confirmation transactions with Tickpick, Buffalo Wild Wings and Insomnia, the Gourmet cookie franchise company.

“I don’t know how to work it out fully,” said Khan about his immediate popularity after a video danced and rapped from him and the cowboys basketball team led the tunnel to the square in February, became viral on social media.

He has done exactly that in the past two years. Ten months in the year of the year, Khan and the four other student managers of the basketball team have the laundry team, extinguish spots on the square, are committed to games and exercises, lead the watch and hype the basketball team before the games.

On February 22nd during a game against Texas A & M-Corpus Christi, Khan went on the tunnel walk, with the team holding his boombox as usual. However, since he knew the words of the song, he decided to rap, sing, sing and dance. The great entry of the team to the square together with Khans rappel was recorded and published on the social media platform X. Then it was also published on Tiktok.

“I thought it was like a pretty cooler, just for the team,” said Khan. “It was a pretty funny moment.”

A few days later, Khan’s family saw the funny video of him, but he didn’t think much about it.

When he came home later this evening, he saw that the video on social media became viral and was released on the websites of Barstool Sports and some other major sports pages. Then, when he would scroll through X, he saw the video again and talked about him.

“I just tried to continue my thing, not to change too much from what we did and concentrate on the success of the team,” said Khan. “But everything is definitely great.”

In the next few days he received calls from companies with national brands to sign NIL agreements with him.

So far, Khan has made a video for Insomnia Cookies, received a Boombox sticker from Tickpick and sent a personalized BUPFBOX from Buffalo Wild Wings as part of his notes.

In addition to Nil deals, Khan sees an increase in fame because the fans buy shirts with his picture and ask him about autographs and photos.

While all of this has been going on since the end of February, Khan said that he had concentrated on the Cowboys team, which was going to the NCAA tournament after winning the Southland Conference Championship. The cowboys are set for a game in the first round as No. 12 against No. 5 seed Clemson Tigers at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday.

“I love all the support that everyone gave me, but I want to make sure that the focus is on the team,” said Khan. “It is their moment, the players and the coaching team, they are the ones who deserve it.”
