MCPS will provide emergency meals for students on Wednesday

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will dedicate 18 schools to providing emergency meals on Wednesday after snow and ice kept schools closed for a third day, according to a statement from the school district.

MCPS announced Tuesday afternoon that all schools and offices would remain closed Wednesday after a winter storm brought more than 5 inches to the area on Monday. Wednesday’s closure marks the third day this week that schools have been closed following Sunday night’s snowstorm. As of Wednesday morning, MCPS has not declared a snow day for Thursday. According to the MCPS website, the decision to close schools will be made by 7 p.m. in the evening, but the decision can be made by 5 a.m. in the morning if necessary

The food distribution should take place between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., according to the statement. Parents, guardians and students may pick up meals for MCPS children and youth 18 years old and younger. Meals are available to take away and reheating instructions are provided.

According to the announcement, thanks to snow and ice removal crews, MCPS can “safely operate these sites to support our community.”
