The Milwaukee County Transit System has a plan to make county buses safer. An MCTS representative told county supervisors Wednesday that the county wants to install new safety seats for bus drivers and more security monitors on the buses. MCTS said the monitors will be installed on the new buses that will be delivered next year: “It’s just a screen to remind people that you’re on camera. Act accordingly. It also provides some situational awareness for people who know you.” “You can look at the screen, make sure you know no one is behind you, or just give you an extra view to make sure you’re safe are while driving our vehicles,” said Brittany Bertsch. MCTS reports between October 2023 and September 2024 there were 333 attacks on buses, 52 of which were with a weapon.
