Mets to close Frankie Montas (Lat-Stamm) for 6-8 weeks

Port st. Lucie, Fla.-New York Mets Right-Hander Frankie Montas was diagnosed with a high-quality LAT load and is closed for six to eight weeks, manager Carlos Mendoza said on Monday.

Montas, who was on the way to New York on Monday to get a tile-rich plasma injection to speed up the healing, began to experience discomfort after his first session of spring training last week. In view of the shutdown time and the necessary structure, after he had not thrown for at least six weeks, he is expected to miss a significant part of the season.

Despite the setback, Mendoza said that the club is still planning to use a six man rotation.

“We have options,” said Mendoza. “We have depth. It’s too early.”

The 31-year-old Montas signed a two-year contract for $ 34 million with the METs in December after completing a 4.84 ERA in 30 starts for the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers last season. Injuries had plagued him beforehand; One shoulder injury limited him to 19 in 2022 and a trip in 2023.

Without Montas, the veterans Paul Blackburn, Griffin Canning and Tylor Megill will be the jugs who fight the last two places in the six-man rotation to start the season.

“There is always a lot in here,” said Mendoza. “And we talked about the whole off -season: we know that we need eight to ten boys so that we are more than 162 years old. And here we are. There is nothing new for us. Boys will appear. Boys will get opportunities And we feel good with the options we have.
