Miami AD expresses dissatisfaction with CFP’s rationale for Alabama’s hurricane rating

After losing two of their last three ACC conference games, the Miami Hurricanes fell to No. 12 in the current CFP rankings – a position that puts them on the outside looking in for the first 12 College Football Playoffs.

Those losses over the past three weeks – a 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech and a 42-38 loss to the Syracuse Orange – were one of the reasons Miami (10-2) was ranked behind the Alabama Crimson Tide (9th). –3).

“Both had some losses that didn’t live up to their expectations in those games,” Warde Manuel, chairman of the College Football Playoff committee, said Tuesday. “But in the last three games, Miami has lost twice. In evaluating their performance, we concluded that Alabama had the edge over Miami.”

Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich was not happy with this explanation and spoke out about it on social media.

“Really ??” The ad was published on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday evening. “…What puts (Alabama) in last place ahead of Miami is that Miami has gone 1-2 in its last three games (with an average of 4.5 points, against a team of Syracuse and Georgia Tech ). (Georgia) just won against 8OT).

Neither Alabama nor Miami qualified to play in their conference championship games next weekend. Given that, according to Manuel, the Crimson Tide will still be ahead of the Hurricanes when the final round is released.

“Those who don’t play, we won’t adjust because they don’t have another data point,” the CFP chairman explained. “…That depends on how we see them in the final week of championship week. Nothing will change for us if we evaluate them differently than we do now.”

The first 12-team College Football Playoff will be officially unveiled Sunday at noon ET.
