Miami AD is angry that Alabama will likely be in the College Football Playoff even with a loss to Oklahoma based on wins over Auburn and Mercer

Miami AD Dan Radakovich can’t believe that wins over Auburn and Mercer and an intervening loss to Oklahoma propelled Alabama into the College Football Playoff and above the Hurricanes in the CFP rankings after Week 14.

“Really??….What puts Bama in last place ahead of Miami is that Miami is 1-2 in its last three games (by an average of 4.5 points against a ranked Syracuse and GT team , which just won UGA). until 8OT). Bama went 2-1 (5-7 vs. Auburn, beat OU and beat FCS Mercer),” Radakovich wrote on Dec. 3.

Warde Manuel, chairman of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, explained that it was the entire season’s work that put the Crimson Tide above The U in the top CFP rankings after the end of the regular season.

“When we ranked both teams and looked at their rankings, what it came down to was obviously we have a high opinion of both teams,” Manuel said on the ESPN reveal show (h/t On3). “One is at 11, one is at 12. But what it ultimately came down to is that Alabama is 3-1 against current top-25 teams and Miami is 0-1. Alabama is 6-1 against teams over .500 and Miami is 4-2. Both had some losses that didn’t live up to their expectations in these games. But in the last three games, Miami has lost twice.”

As Kevin Scarbinsky of The Birmingham Lede shared, Alabama is almost certainly in the College Football Playoff regardless of the outcome of the ACC Championship Game between Clemson and SMU.

“I’m starting to think that CFB playoff chairman Warde Manuel just told us that Alabama is in the playoffs regardless of what happens in the ACC Championship Game,” using the same criteria as today 9-3 Alabama over 10-2 in Miami makes it 9-3 Alabama over 11-2 SMU on Sunday,” Scarbinsky wrote.

Certainly it wasn’t the Iron Bowl that convinced the CFP selection committee that the Crimson Tide was a playoff team. If anything, it was a team that felt it deserved to take the spot from Alabama, South Carolina, and had won enough to make the Tide’s October victory over them a top victory.

The Alabama zombie only emerged from the floor because South Carolina beat Clemson. If SMU were to do the same thing in the ACC Championship Game, any remaining doubts would be eliminated.

Schools from the Palmetto State are in charge of the CFP round, including a three-loss Crimson Tide.
