Miami Dolphins make roster changes

The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed a tackle Jackson Carman to the active squad from the practice squad and placed cornerback Cam Smith on the injured reserve list. The team also signed a cornerback Jason Maitre to the practice team.

Carman was signed to Miami’s practice squad on September 17, 2024 and has played in three games for the Dolphins. He has appeared in 25 career games with six starts in four seasons for Cincinnati (2021-23) and Miami (2024). He also appeared in seven postseason games with two starts for the Bengals. Carman originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (46th overall) by Cincinnati in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Clemson (2018-20), where he appeared in 40 career games with 27 starts during his three seasons with the Tigers.

Blacksmith played in 21 games in two seasons with the Dolphins (2023-24) and recorded 18 tackles (four solo). He was selected by Miami in the second round (51st overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft out of South Carolina, where he was a four-year letterman (2019-22) and two-year starter. He played in 33 games with 19 starts for the Gamecocks and was selected second-team All-SEC in 2021 and 2022. He led the team with 14 passes defensed in 2021 seasons (2020-22).

Maitre entered the NFL on May 14, 2024 as an undrafted college free agent with Miami and spent the offseason program and training camp with the Dolphins. He spent his final college season at Wisconsin, where he played in 12 games with nine starts and totaled 33 tackles (24 solo), one interception and four passes defended. Maitre transferred from Boston College, where he spent five years (2018-22) and recorded 133 tackles (86 solo), 4.0 sacks, three interceptions and 22 passes defensed in 44 games for the Eagles.
