After only a top 16 seed in the upper half of the Miami Open Draw, a great chance of Arthur Fils and Jakub Mensik expects the quarter-finals competition on Thursday.

The top seed Alexander Zverev seemed to be on the way to the last eight, but after he created Fils on Wednesday afternoon, the secondary German finally succumbed to 6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 4. With an unexpected day of rest between the games, the 20-year-old was able to survive another threesome against Zverev.

Arthur Fils

Fils preceded these two results with a simpler day in the office when he passed Gabriel Diallo over the second round in the second round. The world No. 18 is now 11-5 this season and in its last seven games 6-1, a route that also includes a quarter-final run at the Indian Wells Masters.

A second meeting with Mensik is now on the menu for Fils. Her only earlier encounter took place last December at the Nextgen ATP final, where the Frenchman 4-2, 4-3 (4), 4-2 brought.

There is not much to adopt this kind of abbreviated game and Mensik already looks like an even better player than three months ago. The 54th Czech reached the third round of the Australian Open and he is into his third quarter-finals of the season thanks to the defeats of Roberto Bautista Agut, the Indian Wells Champion Jack Draper and Roman Safiullin (he also got a walkver from Tomas Machac on Tuesday).

The conditions in Miami are ideal for Mensik, which – even at the age of 19 – has one of the greatest services on tour. Since Mensik has not played since Monday and Fils tired to a certain extent, the teenager should have the advantage in this Nextgen ergm.

Selection: Mensik in 3
