Michigan Football is projected to win 5 stars by Alabama

Michigan football is in full swing following the transfer of the five-star quarterback from Belleville (Mich.). Bryce Underwood from LSU and a surprising 13-10 win over arch-rival Ohio State in recent weeks.

Now Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines are turning their attention to the recruiting class ahead of Wednesday’s Early Signing Day. With Underwood already on the roster, Michigan was expected to flip another five-star player in the 2025 cycle when On3’s EJ Holland traded a pick to the Wolverines to flip offensive tackle Denton (Texas) Ryan Ty Haywood from Alabama.

On Saturday, On3 reported that Haywood will not sign during the early signing period, opting instead to wait until the more traditional signing period in February. This was seen as a positive sign for Michigan, as Haywood has been committed to Alabama since July, while the Wolverines pushed his recruitment late. According to a report from Holland, Underwood himself was involved in Michigan’s attempt to rip off Haywood, according to Holland.

If Michigan were able to pry Haywood from the Crimson Tide, it would be some sort of revenge for the Wolverines. In November, Alabama replaced one of Michigan’s most committed prospects as a four-star defensive lineman Ivan Taylor.

The Wolverines have had a number of recent recruiting successes. In addition to Underwood, Michigan has also flipped four-star defenders Shamari Earls (Georgia), Jordan Young (Clemson) and Elijah Dotson (Pittsburgh) and four-star defenseman Benny Patterson (Cincinnati) and three-star wide receiver Jamar Browder (State of North Carolina).

With the early signing period approaching, Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 8 nationally, and the Wolverines’ average prospect rating of 92.25 is good enough for No. 6 nationally (per 247Sports).
