Michigan State Police patrol car struck on I-75, trooper uninjured | Local

SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – A Michigan State Police trooper’s patrol vehicle was struck while blocking traffic at the scene of an accident on I-75.

The trooper parked the patrol vehicle on southbound I-75 around 7 p.m. to direct motorists to the northbound interchange of I-675 north of Saginaw while authorities investigated an earlier accident on the Zilwaukee Bridge.

The officer was outside his vehicle when an SUV struck the passenger side. Neither the police officer nor the driver who hit the patrol car suffered injuries in the accident.

Michigan State Police reminded drivers that Michigan law requires them to slow down and move across the lane when passing an emergency vehicle with its lights activated.

Investigators did not say whether the driver who hit the patrol vehicle will face criminal charges. Authorities did not release any information about the Zilwaukee Bridge crash as of Wednesday morning.
