“Mike Tyson’s Untold Story” appears in a new documentary series on Netflix

Netflix has announced its latest sports documentary series focusing on the life and legacy of legendary boxer and cultural icon Mike Tyson. The three-part series, set to premiere in 2024, will delve into the highs and lows of Tyson’s extraordinary journey and provide an unfiltered look at the man who became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at just 20 years old.

Produced by EverWonder Studio, DLP Media Group and Five All In The Fifth, the series includes three 60-minute episodes directed by acclaimed filmmaker Floyd Russ, known for Netflix hits such as Untold: Malice in the Palace And American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing. Executive producers include Ian Orefice, Jim Gray, Michael Hughes, Greg C. Lake and Douglas Banker.

From Tyson’s meteoric rise to “the worst man on the planet” to his well-documented struggles – including incarceration, financial difficulties and controversy both in and out of the ring – the documentary aims to explore the full spectrum of Tyson’s life. It also documents his eventual redemption and lasting influence across generations.

“Having the opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity in a multi-part documentary on Netflix will be a challenging but also very welcoming journey,” Tyson said in a statement. “Most people are too afraid to look at their lives objectively and want to portray themselves as the hero of their own story. But if we are truly objective, we know that we can never be the hero of our own story. We must be able to face the man in the mirror and compare the good with the bad to give a full account of our contribution in this life. Netflix is the perfect platform to tell my story because of its global reach.”

The announcement follows the record-breaking Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson mega-event, which became the most globally streamed sporting event in history. The event further cemented Tyson’s enduring appeal and showcased his ability to captivate fans across generations.

This documentary joins Netflix’s growing portfolio of sports programming, including critically acclaimed titles such as: Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Full of momentumAnd quarterback. The platform has become a premier destination for sports storytelling, with partnerships spanning major leagues such as the NFL, NBA, FIFA and WWE.
