Millie Bright focuses on the task at hand | News | Official site

Millie Bright has no doubt that the Blues are fully focused on the task ahead when we take on Real Madrid in our final UEFA Champions League group game.

We will be in action for the last time in 2024 when we play Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium tonight.

And with both teams having already secured a place in the quarter-finals, it will be a battle for the top spot in Group B. The Blues are currently three points clear of our second-placed opponents and will remain top if we avoid defeat against Las Blancas.

Sonia Bompastor’s side head into our final group game having dropped their first points of the Women’s Super League season with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the weekend. However, Bright believes there is no risk that this result will impact our performance in the Spanish capital.

“For us it’s just about focusing on the job we want to do,” Bright told the media in the pre-game press conference. “And that means leading the group and making sure we put in a performance, especially after the weekend.”

“It’s about getting back on our feet and getting back to our level.” Our goal in the end is the three points and a good performance.”

“As players we are experienced,” Bright continued. “We’ve been in this situation before where we haven’t played our best game or lost points, but it’s part of football and part of such a competitive league where you don’t take anyone for granted. “Anyone can deduct points from anyone.

“We have to learn from the experience but as players we are very confident within our group and know what we are capable of.” “I don’t think a poor performance and losing two points should have any impact on what we are in future.”

Our captain expects a difficult game against Madrid as she stressed that there are no easy games on Europe’s biggest stage.

“They’re the games you want to play in,” Bright said. “As Chelsea players we want to play against the best teams and the best opponents.” That is the opportunity that lies ahead of us. This is the team we face.

“For us it’s about focusing on our performance and making sure we execute our game plan to get those three points.”

With this being our final game of the calendar year, the Blues captain was asked how she would reflect on the last 12 months, which has seen the club go through a transitional period of winning titles.

“It’s just a matter of looking forward,” Bright replied. “Real Madrid is the first focus point and we want everyone to focus on that.”

“Of course we will have time to think. “It’s been an incredible year for us as a club, but my eyes turn to the game against Real Madrid and then to 2025.”
