Monroe Police make several DUI arrests

MONROE, CT – A 53-year-old Trumbull woman was charged with drunken driving Saturday evening after a police officer saw her allegedly failing to obey a stop sign in her gray Honda CRV at the intersection of Porters Hill and Purdy Hill streets Report.

The officer, who also learned that the vehicle’s registration had expired since April, conducted a motor vehicle stop near the 70 block of Elm Street, police said.

While speaking with the driver, officers said officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic coming from her body and that she admitted to drinking wine at a restaurant earlier in the night.

Field sobriety tests revealed she was under the influence of alcohol, leading to her arrest and the towing of her vehicle, police said. Later, at police headquarters, she allegedly refused to submit to a breath test.

She was charged with driving under the influence, failure to register a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign and released on $500 bail for a Dec. 16 court date.

The incident occurred around 7:13 p.m

Crashing leads to drunk driving

A 49-year-old Trumbull woman was charged with driving under the influence after she crashed her black 2013 Land Rover into a stone retaining wall in the 700 block of Monroe Turnpike around noon Sunday.

According to the report, officers who arrived on scene saw the passenger side of the vehicle resting against the wall at the end of a residential driveway.

When officers asked the driver what happened, she gave them a blank look and began making hand gestures, police said, adding that an odor of an alcoholic beverage was coming from her.

Police said she appeared confused and was unable to answer basic questions. She was unable to complete field sobriety tests, and breath tests at headquarters showed her blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

She was charged with second-offense drunken driving and released on $500 bail for a Dec. 17 court date.

DUI: Beer bottle in center console

A 42-year-old Monroe man was charged with drunken driving following a traffic stop in his 2021 Lincoln on Fan Hill Road near Lynn Drive on Nov. 23.

The officer who stopped the driver for a canceled license plate around 10:26 p.m. noticed an open beer bottle in the center console, according to police.

The driver told officers he was coming from a bar in Oxford where he had had a drink a few hours earlier. According to the report, police also smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and the man admitted to smoking weed several hours ago.

Field sobriety tests revealed he was under the influence, and while searching for weapons, officers found a bag of marijuana on him, police said.

He was charged with drunken driving and operating an unregistered motor vehicle and then released on $500 bail for a Dec. 10 court date.

Breach of peace

A 21-year-old Shelton woman was arrested Nov. 29 on a warrant out of Monroe after she allegedly stalked her ex-boyfriend on Nov. 1. She was charged with breach of peace and released on $1,000 bail. She was expected to appear in court on November 1st Monday this week.

On Nov. 1, her ex-boyfriend went to the Trumbull Police Department to ask officers for help because he said she had followed him to Trumbull.

When Trumbull police couldn’t find the woman, police said the ex-boyfriend drove to Noble Gas in Monroe and noticed her following him there, according to the report. He called Monroe police around 9:50 p.m.

Police said the Shelton woman appeared confused but did not deny following her ex-boyfriend. As she spoke to officers, she became sick, vomited and was taken to a hospital.

After the incident, officers applied for an arrest warrant for breach of the peace, which was signed by a judge.

Pedestrian struck

A 51-year-old Hills of Monroe man was conscious and walking around after suffering a leg injury when he was struck by a 2012 Honda Civic as he crossed Windgate Circle to get to his parked car early Saturday morning reach.

According to police, the Honda hit the man’s left leg around 6:42 a.m., knocking him to the ground. He was treated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Services personnel and then taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further evaluation.

The driver of the Honda, a 47-year-old woman, was also a resident of the complex.

Crash at the RR underpass

According to police, an 18-year-old woman from Newtown was traveling north on High Rock Road, north of Hammertown Road, approaching the railroad underpass when her blue 2007 Jeep Wrangler turned right and struck the wall Friday evening bounced.

Police said the impact hit the fender and wheel on the passenger side of the vehicle, adding that the Jeep had to be towed due to the disability. The driver did not appear to be injured.

She was given a warning for failing to follow the correct lane.

The crash occurred around 9:13 p.m
