Months after Virginia nurse’s disappearance, husband Naresh Bhatt faces murder charges World News

Naresh Bhatt, husband of the nurse who disappeared in Virginia this July, has been indicted by a grand jury on murder charges, CNN reported. Prince William County court records show Bhatt was charged with murder and desecration of a corpse, among other charges.

Bhatt, who has been held without bail since August in connection with the disappearance of his wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt, was expected in court on Wednesday morning after his arraignment continued on Tuesday because an interpreter was not available.

Bhatt, a former Fairfax County police recruit and former U.S. Army Reserve automated logistics specialist, was charged with concealing a body before being arraigned on a murder charge.

According to police, Bhatt was charged with corpse desecration after evidence in the case showed that he had dismembered the body of his wife Mamta.

Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old nurse and mother, disappeared on July 27 and has been presumed dead by authorities ever since. She was last seen at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, where she worked in the medical-surgical unit.

During the search warrant, authorities found blood spatter from her bedroom and pools of blood in the bathroom “as if something had been dragged across the floor.”

DNA testing revealed that the blood found in Kafle Bhatt’s bedroom belonged to her and there was evidence that she was murdered on July 29, police said.

“From the beginning, we believed she was murdered…based on the crime scene. “This DNA test result helps the case and somewhat confirms what we believe happened,” Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo said at a news conference.

The chief said authorities were continuing their search for the body but that the body’s absence was not detrimental to the case.

Authorities also said that Naresh Bhatt was filmed driving his car and dumping garbage bags in dumpsters after his wife’s disappearance.

Kafle Bhatt’s baby daughter was handed over to her maternal family from Nepal in August.
