More than 12 Georgia players are expected to miss the Sugar Bowl

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without several key players in the Sugar Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. A combination of transfers, suspensions and injuries means over 10 Georgia Bulldogs will miss the Sugar Bowl.

Georgia will have to do without starting quarterback Carson Beck against Notre Dame. In Beck’s place, the Bulldogs will start quarterback Gunner Stockton, who started in the second half of the SEC championship game but has just 51 pass attempts in his career.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent elbow surgery and is out for the Sugar Bowl and the remainder of Georgia’s season. Beck will be cheering on the Bulldogs from the sidelines.

Star Georgia punter Brett Thorson is out for the year due to a knee injury he suffered in the SEC Championship. Freshman Drew Miller is expected to play in Thorson’s place.

Running back Roderick Robinson

Robinson suffered a lower-body injury in practice and is not expected to play in the Sugar Bowl. Robinson only appeared in two games at Georgia this season.

Running back Branson Robinson

Robinson was not present at Georgia’s practice leading up to the Sugar Bowl and reportedly suffered a setback in his knee. Robinson hasn’t played in several months. With Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson out, Georgia will rely on running backs Trevor Etienne, Nate Frazier and Cash Jones.

Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young has been suspended indefinitely since the Auburn game in early October. Young has 11 receptions, 149 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Georgia has had nine players enter the transfer portal since the SEC Championship Game. Two of those players (David Daniel-Sisavanh and Rara Thomas) in the portal were not with the team during the regular season. The other seven players did not practice and are expected to miss the Sugar Bowl.

Most notably, cornerback Julian Humphrey and defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett are both expected to miss the Notre Dame game and the playoffs. Humphrey and Jarrett are both part of UGA’s defensive rotation.
