Mouhamed Dioubate takes Kentucky after leaving Alabama basketball in the transfer portal

Mouhamed Dioubate might have left Alabama men’s basketball, but he didn’t leave the Sec.

The former crimson tide striker committed himself to Kentucky, he announced on Monday. Dioubate entered the transfer portal last weekend.

Born in New York in Queens, the last two seasons spent Alabama. The 6-7, 215 pound striker became known for its hard style of play and often won the protective helmet after the Crimson Tide had won a player for the hits of the most strenuous points.

Dioubate played in 33 games last season, but did not start any. He achieved an average of 16 minutes per game, 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.9 steals, while he shot 46.2% from beyond the arch. Dioubate was not a volume shooter from Deep, but when he tried these shots, he often did it.

The most memorable game of Dioubate occurred in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2024 during the last four runs of Alabama. In 13 minutes he scored nine points and scored five rebounds while blocking two shots. Many of them occurred on the track in a rock fight against Grand Canyon. Alabama coach Nate Oats said several times that the Crimson Tide probably would not have won this game, unless the striker at the time.

Dioubate is one of two Alabama players who have so far entered the transfer portal. Naas Cunningham, who redesigned the entire 2024-25 season, also put his name in the portal.

The Crimson Tide will not bring Mark Sears, Chris Youngblood, Grant Nelson and Clifford Omoruyi back next season. All four starters exhausted their justification.

However, Alabama will have many new faces. The Crimson Tide has already added three transfer portal players in Bucknell’s Noah Williamson, Taylor Bol Bowen in the state of Florida, and Jalil Bethea from Miami.

With about three squad places for 2025-26, Alabama is still waiting for official decisions from Derrion Reid, Labaron Philon and Jarin Stevenson. All have remaining authorization.
