Mountain West Championship picks, best bets

After winning the Mountain West Championship last year, Boise State will look to do it again in what is expected to be a very competitive game against UNLV.

The Broncos feature Heisman Trophy contender Ashton Jeanty, who has 2,288 rushing yards this season.

UNLV should keep up pretty well with Boise State’s all-world running back, as it allowed the 14th fewest rushing yards per game (104.4) this year.

UNLV’s 3.4 yards per carry (YPC) allowed is also among the best in the country.

When Boise State beat UNLV 29-24 earlier this season, Jeanty posted a YPC average of just 3.9, which was the lowest YPC average he had in a game this season.

The Runnin’ Rebels will look to maintain similar success in rushing defense on Friday night.

UNLV vs Boise State Prediction

Rebels receiver Ricky White III is another strong offensive playmaker in this game, as he has eclipsed 100 receiving yards in four of his last six games.

Last time out against the Broncos, he had five catches for 57 yards.

UNLV beat Boise State in most games in October, thanks largely to a missed field goal in the second quarter. The Broncos’ kicker went three-for-three instead.

The Rebels’ defense is significantly better than the Broncos’, which is the X-factor of this game.

Pro Football Focus ranks the Rebels’ defense among the top groups in college football.

UNLV’s 4.9 yards per play is 19th best in the country, while the Broncos’ 5.4 yards are 60th among FBS schools in the country.

Betting on college football?

Jeanty is great, but UNLV is far more versatile and I predict White will play a big role in prime time.

The Broncos have allowed 269.9 yards per game, the ninth-worst mark in the FBS, and their 7.9 yards per pass attempt allowed is still a low-half mark (98th of 134).

PICK: UNLV Moneyline (+155, FanDuel) | Ricky White III Over 79.5 receiving yards (-110, ESPN BET) | 150+ receiving yards (+850, Bet365)
