The high-profile murder of a Hizra leader in Kodavalur police area of Nellore SPSR district was recently blamed on attempts of advantage and control between two groups of transgenders.

To solve the murder case, Police Commissioner G. Krishnakanth introduced the arrested accused to the media on Sunday (December 1, 2024). As many as 12 of the 15 accused in the case were nabbed.

It may be recalled that on November 26, 2024, Hizra leader Manikala Hasini was brutally stabbed to death by an armed group near Tapathopu under-bridge in Kodavalur while she was returning from a temple at Parlapalli in Vidavalur mandal.

Hasini was known as the leader of the Hizra community in the south coast of Rayalaseema but exercised sufficient influence in the Raichur, Chikmagalur, Ballari, Dharwad and Hubli regions of Karnataka. She had an ongoing feud with Alekhya, another transgender leader, allegedly over territorial supremacy. Cases have been registered against both in several police stations of Tirupati and Nellore districts.

Alekhya along with his transgender leaders Sulochana and Sheela offered Supari (commission) to Bhupathi for the assassination of Hasini. The police officials arrested main accused Vamsi Krishna alias Nani and contract killer Bhupathi along with 10 others involved in the crime while they were traveling in two cars under Kovur Bridge.

Mr Krishnakanth thanked Deputy Superintendent Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao (Nellore Rural) and his team for breaking the case.
