Murder suspect on the run after a gruesome machete attack on his neighbor

HOUSTON (KTRK) — A murder suspect is on the run after allegedly killing his neighbor with a machete.

The fatal incident occurred around 11 p.m. on November 19 next to a corner store at the intersection of Hirsch Road and Bennington Street.

Houston police said surveillance video shows Alvaro Lovos, 52, chasing his neighbor Charlie Wilson, 67, in the North Houston neighborhood.

Police said the video also shows Lovos struck Wilson 25 times with the machete.

According to investigators, Lovos actually lived in an apartment above the store. Wilson’s body was found near the stairwell.

Wilson’s family told KTRK that Lovos actually stayed there after the murder and spoke to them and police. Family members say Lovos was covered in blood and want to know why he wasn’t arrested at the time.

Charlie’s brother, Willie Ray Wilson, said he was scared.

“I’m kind of nervous about him,” he said. “He might try to turn around and finish me off.”

The video showed Lovos striking Wilson 10 times with the machete and then another 15 times as he lay on the ground, seemingly dead.

Willie Ray said he was called by a neighbor to the store where Charlie was doing odd jobs. When he arrived, he called 911 and realized what had happened.

Family members said that while covered in blood, Lovos told them that he had tried to help Charlie, who was killed by two other men.

Court documents show Lovos also spoke to an officer at the scene and told them the same thing, but was never arrested.

A decision that Charlie’s family is now questioning.
