Although Michele explicitly pointed out in his statement to trans people, it would be difficult to read it as a comment on the current status of the anti-trans animus in the USA, from the public bathroom since North Carolina’s passage was a national anti-trans-test stone. According to the Movement Advancement Project, there are currently three countries in which trans-people use the right bathroom in all state institutions, and two countries in which this can be a criminal offense. There are currently 13 countries in which the state law prohibits transpers who use the right bathroom in K-12 schools.

Schreiber’s mother Naomi Watts (who played in particular into the leading role Mulholland DrivePerhaps Lynch’s strangest film, which also took the relationship between intimacy and performativity into account), has long used for her trans daughter.
