Nargis Fakhri’s sister is charged with arson murder in a New York home

Bollywood actor Nargis Fakhri’s sister has been accused of double murder and arson.

Aliya Fakhri, 43, is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs, 35, and his girlfriend Anastasia Ettienne, 33, by setting fire to a garage where they were sleeping in New York on November 2.

“Today you are all going to die,” she shouted, according to a statement from Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “Aliya Fakhri allegedly started the fire near the entrance of the building and trapped the two inside, leaving them with no way out,” the statement continued.

Both alleged victims later died of smoke inhalation and heat injuries after flames engulfed the garage in Jamaica, Queens.

Aliya Fakhri was indicted by a grand jury on four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder and one count each of first-degree arson and second-degree arson. If convicted of the highest charge, she could face life in prison.

Newsweek has requested comment from the Attorney General’s Office and asked to contact Aliya Fakhri’s lawyers to provide a statement on her behalf. Newsweek also emailed Nargis Fakhri representatives for comment.

Fakhri arrived at the front door of the garage behind 172-27 91st Avenue around 6:20 a.m., the prosecutor’s statement said. “Shortly afterwards a witness who was on the property came downstairs and discovered the building was on fire. Ettienne was alerted to the fire and briefly went downstairs.

“The woman then returned upstairs to rescue the sleeping Jacobs. The building burst into flames and neither Jacobs nor Ettienne were able to escape.”

Jacobs’ mother, Janet, who did not want her last name used, told the story The New York Post that her son separated from Fakhri a year ago. “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for a year, but she wouldn’t accept the rejection,” the mother said.

She added that Jacobs was a plumber who was working on the property converting the garage into an apartment and said he and Ettienne were friends, not lovers.

Jacobs, a father of three, leaves behind eleven-year-old twins and another nine-year-old boy.

Several international branches, including the Hindustan TimesThey reported that Fakhri’s mother said: “I don’t think she would kill anyone. She was a person who cared about everyone. She tried to help everyone.”

Fakhri was remanded in custody on Wednesday and will appear again on December 9.

District Attorney Katz said: “As alleged in this indictment, this defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by starting a fire that trapped a man and a woman in a raging inferno. The victims died tragically from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Our condolences go out to the families of Edward Jacobs and Anastasia Ettienne as we pursue this case.”
