New Jersey Choir Groups Present “Sing in the Season”

Four New Jersey choirs will collaborate on a series of celebratory choral concerts.

Stephen Sands conducts the Somerset Hills Chorus in the opening concert. The program includes selected Christmas carols, accompanied by harp and drums. The concert will take place at SW Bowne Hall at Drew University on December 6th at 5 p.m

The Harmonium Choral Society, a 100-voice choir, is led by Dr. Anne Matlack directed. The concert will feature “Snow Angel” by Sarah Quartel with cello and piano as well as works by Buxtehude, Bruckner, Hailstork, Betinis, Rossi and others. The East Coast premiere of Joseph Gregorio’s “Unbound Angels” will also take place there, with the composer in attendance. The Harmonium Choral Society will perform two performances at Morristown Presbyterian Church. The first date is scheduled for December 6th at 7:30 p.m. and the second for December 8th at 3:00 p.m. The choir will also perform at First Night Morris on New Year’s Eve at the Church of the Redeemer at 6 and 7 p.m

The Masterwork Chorus, led by music director Martin Sedek, rings in the holidays with excerpts from Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” as well as other classics and holiday gems from Gustav Holst to Irving Berlin. Their first concert is scheduled for December 8 at 4 p.m. at Chatham United Methodist Church. The program will be presented again at St. Elizabeth University’s Dolan Hall on December 15 at 3 p.m

Michael Wittenburg conducts the Morris Choral Society in the final program of the “Home for the Holidays” series. The program explores various festivals around the world and also includes the women’s vocal ensemble High Society, the men’s group Express Male and the Frelinghuysen Middle School Select Choir. The Frelinghuysen Choir, conducted by Gillian Erlenborn, also takes part in the popular sing-along. This concert will be held at Morristown United Methodist Church on December 15th at 3 p.m.
