New naming of the Xcel Energy Center receives mixed reactions from students – the Minnesota Daily

The Xcel Energy Center, the home of Minnesota Wild and Frost, is given a new name.

According to a press release, the existing Arena Law Law Agreement with Xcel Energy will complete this summer after a 25-year partnership. The company will remain a joint and business partner of The Wild.

Minnesota Wild owner Since 2008, Craig Leipold said in a press release, he was grateful for her 25-year name rights and partnership with XCEL Energy.

“Xcel Energy has been an incredible supporter of our team since our opening season,” said Leipold. “We look forward to continuing to work with you in a number of unique community initiatives as part of our new, long-term partnership.”

As part of the new partnership between Xcel Energy and The Wild, a “Community Power Play” will start to expand access to hockey for everyone. The program offers grants for youth hockey organizations, invested and improved in local hockey facilities, offers athletes financial support and when buying devices.

Bob Frenzel, President of Xcel Energy, said in a statement that her new partnership with the game will open a new chapter.

“This new chapter with the wilderness is expanding our commitment to the region and will serve to expand access to hockey sports so that more young girls and boys can access this wonderful sport throughout the state,” said Frenzel.

Students of the University of Minnesota have mixed feelings for the name change.

Neil Roy, student in the third year, said that changes to the stadium name are shaken.

Roy from New Orleans, Louisiana, said he still hadn’t passed the saints in New Orleans to change their stadium from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the Caesars Superdome.

“In my opinion, the aspect of nostalgia ruins,” said Roy.

Luke Wittner, a student in the fourth year, said he grew up with a wild fan and finds the name disappointing.

Wittner said he thinks people will continue to call the arena Xcel Energy, as people continue to call X Twitter.

“I think it will only be disappointing that you will hear how the announcers (the stadium) call something different, come by and have a new logo there and say:” I remember the Xcel Energy Center, “said Wittner.

The student in the second year, Elliott Pollard, said the new name change would take some time to get used to it, but people will adapt over time. The Golden Gopher Football Arena in the Huntington Bank Stadium was previously referred to as TCF Bank.

Pollard said that only a few people continue to call the TCF bank, so it is possible to accept a change in the stadium name.

“It depends on what who gets naming rights,” said Pollard.

Since a new name has not yet been announced, many people speculate about how the next name for the Xcel Energy Center will be.

Pollard mentioned the possibility that there is another Minnesota Sports Center with a target brand.

“Target is such a large company in this area, but it would be a little confusing to have both a target center and a target arena,” said Pollard. “Both could either be called an arena or a center.”

Pollard is not the only one who thinks about the possible name change. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported over 10 possible suggestions for the Wildarena.

Some of these suggestions were “Best Buy Arena”, “Old Dutch Arena”, “Hamms Center” and even the “Totino’s Pizza Rolls Arena”.

Despite this speculation, the game awaits to announce a new partner for arena name rights before the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
