New transmission line for the Sherco plant in Becker approved

Minneapolis (Wjon News) – The establishment of a new Major Minnesota supply line was approved. Xcel Energy received approval from the state on the 175-mile broadcast of Minnesota Energy Connection.

Once in 2028, the line is generated with electricity in Südwest -Minnesota to the electrical network of the Sherco location in Becker. The line will deliver energy to supply over 1 million houses in the upper middle west. According to Xcel Energy, the new line continues its investment in the Beckengemeinschaft and positions Südwest -Minnesota for significant new investments in the future. Xcel now begins with the work on design, engineering and negotiations with land owners to buy relief in which the transmission line is built.

The construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and will be completed in 2028 with additional substation by 2031. Xcel Energy also received approval for a new natural gas power plant near the southern point of the line in Lyon County.
