New Year’s Eve forecast for Sacramento and Lake Tahoe

According to our weather team, Northern California will be dry and mostly sunny on Tuesday. High temperatures in the valley are expected to be in the mid to upper 50s. No matter where you celebrate New Year’s Eve, be sure to bring a jacket for all of the evening’s festivities. Meteorologist Kelly Curran says those looking to ring in 2025 in South Lake Tahoe can expect temperatures of 36 degrees at 5 p.m., then dropping to 32 degrees by 10 p.m. The forecast for those counting down on the Cobblestones in Old Sacramento is 52 degrees at 4 p.m. and 43 degrees at 10 p.m. Here’s the midnight forecast for everyone else at the bars or elsewhere. Sacramento: 42 degrees, Stockton: 43 degrees, Modesto: 43 degrees, Placerville: 42 degrees, Auburn: 40 degrees, South Lake Tahoe: 31 degrees. Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, some mountain showers are likely late in the day, according to our weather team. The next chance of rain and snow is Friday. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain is expected in the valley by late afternoon, with up to half an inch in the foothills. There should be enough snow on the summits for chain controls.
