News channel lambasted for failing to cover Zendaya, mother on Boston walk

Boston never gets old – for Zendaya.

The 28-year-old Emmy winner spent time in Beantown while filming her upcoming film The Drama with Robert Pattinson, and despite being one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, a local news station was mocked when it aired. Rolling shots of Zendaya and her mother on a casual afternoon out on the town, supposedly not showing that it was the A-lister and her ladylove.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, Boston’s WCVB Channel 5 aired a video from the first day of the city’s holiday celebrations in the popular Newbury St. shopping district — and caught Zendaya and her mother, Claire Stoermer, even though the news team apparently didn’t know about it, according to the TikTok -User @chlomance.

The network appeared to notice the gaffe, as it replayed the clip on Monday, December 2, according to People. In the image, two young girls could be seen in awe as the “Euphoria” star and her mother walked past, with the caption “Star” Stollen Walk.”

One of the WCVB reporters admitted to the hilarious mistake. WCVB

“WCVB Channel 5 is shooting b-roll and not clocking, they have Zendaya,” @chlomance captioned the footage from Sunday’s show, adding two screaming laughing emojis.

“I saw that and screamed at the TV!” One person commented on the video of the “Spider-Man” actress and her mother. “You would do that 💀,” another responded.

“Breaking news tomorrow morning,” joked a third. “This is hilarious meeting her and her mom 😂 I just want to know if she has seen met,” someone else added.

The B-roll fumble made the rounds because even WCVB reporter Matt Reed commented on the viral social media clip. “Thanks for the tip!” he commented.

Zendaya’s mother is a teacher and owns a jewelry line. After eight years of marriage, she filed for divorce from the actress’ father, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, in 2016. They said “yes” when Zendaya was 12 years old.

While Zendaya is their only child together, the star has five older step-siblings from her father’s previous marriage, according to People.

Her mother isn’t the only loved one who came to Boston to visit Zendaya.

The Greatest Showman actress’ boyfriend, Tom Holland, was in town on November 8th. Following his visit, the actor shared a series of rare photos and videos from a date night at a bar called Foxhole in Newbury St.

Zendaya and Pattinson were confirmed as co-stars in the upcoming feature film in August.

The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported that the film “follows a couple whose romantic relationship changes dramatically before their big day.” The release date of the film has not yet been set.
