NFL Analyst says Seattle Seahawks should extend Geno Smith

The Seattle Seahawks have an important decision by Geno Smith in the coming weeks. Expand (and/or restructure), act or leave out the experienced quarterback or leave it free? What about the (unlikely, but not impossible) scenario to have Smith played in his business in the last year, be it with a lower cap goal or the current fee of $ 44.5 million?

In an NFL.com article that highlights a move outside the season of every NFC team, analyst Kevin Patra made the case to expand geno.

Do you leave the “Should the Seahawks Geno act with Pete Carrolls Raiders?” Pontification alone. Swap Smith and turn to whom in the middle? Sam Howell? Sam Darnold at a similar price as geno? A beginner in a design class that most analysts believe is flat? Unless Seattle is ready to go into a complete reconstruction after a season with 10 victories, in my opinion is little sense. Yes, the red zone interceptions died, but Smith’s game was a big reason why the Seahawks even had a shot in the off-season. Only a few deliver better, while they were repeatedly painted behind an offensive interior who fought. Smith is not the problem. Forget to act. He deserves a further extension that provides guaranteed dollars and a few more years and at the same time reduces his cap number.

Smith has been the starter from Seattle for three seasons. If we are honest with ourselves, it is at least two seasons longer than expected after Russell Wilson was traded. After an inspiring campaign of 2022, Smith received an extension of three years and turned his career after not spent with the New York Jets and the following years as a backup. Every season has led to a form of discussions outside the season whether he should remain the starter.

The Seahawks have not won a playoff game with Smith and have missed Tiebreakers in the past two years in the past two years. At 34, Smith is not exactly a long -term solution for the team of the team for the next decade. The circumstances of the inferior offensive line game, the lack of a uniform running game and (until the last part of 2024) lack of inferior defense would make it difficult for most quarterback to be successful. Add the disappointing term of office of the offensive coordinator Ryan Grub and it was not almost an ideal sentence of circumstances. As Patra noted, he was also an important reason for the 10-sie season of Seattle and the advance on the division title with Smith’s high intercept.

Will John Schneider be considered time this year to continue and become younger and/or cheaper? Or is Smith maintaining, regardless of whether the Seahawks are planning the possible long-term franchise quarters or not?

Smith’s squad bonus from Smith is due on March 16. We will not only have our answer to Smith’s future, but possibly also how the Seahawks seriously see in 2025 as potential competitors.
