Trevor Lawrence’s season is now reportedly over.

After a scary hit from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shair left him with a concussion, the Jacksonville Jaguars placed the quarterback on the injured reserve list on Wednesday.

While this move could have allowed him to return after four games, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Lawrence will also undergo surgery to repair his AC joint injury. This eliminates any opportunity for the player to return five weeks before the end of the regular season.

Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury in Week 9 that forced him to miss two games and returned last Sunday.

Before the injury, Lawrence had 2,045 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 games. Last season, Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, enough to earn him a massive five-year, $275 million extension this offseason.

In Mac Jones, who spent the first three seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, the Jags have a backup with starting experience. Jones, looking to prove he can be a starting quarterback, had a difficult performance in his first start of the year, throwing for 111 yards and two interceptions in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

With Lawrence’s season now seemingly over, Jones will get plenty of reps to close out the year and the Jaguars will head into the offseason hoping to make some progress.
