No. 6 Georgia manages to beat Georgia Tech 44-42 in the eighth overtime | National sport

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Nate Frazier scored a 2-pointer in the eighth overtime of a marathon for the ages after No. 6 Georgia staged an improbable comeback in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs a 44-42 victory over Georgia Technology on Friday evening.

After falling behind 17-0 at halftime and dominating most of the game, the Bulldogs (10-2, No. 7 CFP) may have secured a spot in the College Football Playoff – no matter how they finish Southeastern Conference championship game next weekend.

Carson Beck threw five touchdown passes, two of them in overtime, in a game in which the Bulldogs never took a lead until regulation ended 27-0.

Georgia Tech (7-5) was led by Haynes King, who ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more. But the Yellow Jackets suffered their seventh straight loss to the Bulldogs, and the end came just minutes after midnight on a freezing night between the hedgerows.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Ashton Jeanty rushed for 226 yards and a touchdown, Maddux Madsen threw for two TDs and rushed for one, and No. 11 Boise State beat Oregon State.

Jeanty’s performance moved him into fifth place among the all-time FBS single-season rushing leaders and left him 54 yards behind fourth-place finisher Marcus Allen. Jeanty is 340 yards behind record holder Barry Sanders, who rushed for 2,628 yards in 1988, with at least two more games guaranteed.

Boise State (11-1, No. 11 CFP) remains the top-ranked conference leader among Group of Five teams vying for an automatic bid to the first 12 College Football Playoffs. The Broncos suffered their only loss in September at No. 1 Oregon 37-34.

The Broncos host either Colorado State or UNLV in the Mountain West championship game on Friday, with a spot in the playoffs on the line.

#15 MISSISSIPPI 26, MISSISSIPPI ST. 14

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Ulysses Bentley rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown and No. 15 Mississippi defeated rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, keeping its slim hope of the College Football Playoff alive.

Jaxson Dart completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown for the Rebels (9-3, 5-2 Southeastern Conference).

Dart became Ole Miss’ career passer with a 17-yard strike to Jordan Watkins in the second quarter. He entered the game 49 yards behind Eli Manning and finished the day with 10,213 yards. Dart, who played as a freshman at Southern Cal, entered the game leading the FBS in offense and passing efficiency.

The Rebels, who lost to Florida last week, will need help in other weekend games to get into the CFP. They battled the SEC’s worst defense and trailed twice in the first half before Bentley broke through with an 89-yard TD run that gave Ole Miss a 17-14 lead with less than nine minutes left before halftime.

Mississippi failed to take a two-point lead against the Bulldogs (2-10, 0-8) until Dart passed tight end Caden Prieskorn 19 yards with 9:56 to play.

#23 COLORADO 52, OKLAHOMA ST. 0

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Travis Hunter boosted his Heisman hopes with three touchdown catches and an interception as Colorado beat No. 23 Oklahoma State to keep its hopes of a non-Big 12 title game alive.

Hunter finished the game with 10 balls for 116 yards. His three touchdown catches give him 14 this year, passing Nelson Spruce (12 touchdown catches, 2014) for the most by a Colorado receiver in a single season. Hunter, who caught the final attack with a defender hanging on him as he fell to the ground, punctuated the moment with a Heisman pose.

Shedeur Sanders threw for 438 yards, breaking the school’s single-season passing record for the bowl-bound Buffaloes (9-3, 7-2, No. 25 CFP). He finished the regular season with 3,926 passing yards, surpassing Koy Detmer’s single-season mark (3,527) set in 1996. Sanders also added five TD passes to increase his total to a school-best 35 this season .

With their work done, the Buffaloes must wreak havoc in the conference on Saturday to secure a spot in the league’s championship contest on Dec. 7 in Arlington, Texas.
