ALTOONA, Pa. – Norfolk Southern has introduced its historic locomotive to the Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railway.

The shiny blue device, AC44C6M #4851, made its debut in a video posted by NS on its social media channels last night. The video shows Juniata Locomotive Paint Shop employees working on the locomotive.

Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia’s roots date back to 1891, when the Chattanooga Southern Railway completed its route from its namesake town in Tennessee to Gadsden, Alabama. The railroad was placed into receivership in 1892 and renamed the Chattanooga Southern Railway. The TAG was created out of the bankruptcy of the Chattanooga Southern in 1911. The NS predecessor Southern Railway acquired the 87-mile-long TAG in 1971.

In October, NS nominated four railroads: Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railway; Atlantic & East Carolina Railroad; Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway; and the Delaware & Hudson Railway – as candidates for their newest historic locomotive and sought votes on social media.

The railroad unveiled the locomotive today at a town hall meeting with employees in Altoona.
