North Texas animal adoption event hopes to find homes for animals – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation for Empty the Shelters to waive adoption fees from December 1-17. According to DAS, the “Empty the Shelters” adoption event has helped more than 300,000 pets find homes nationwide.

“It’s been an incredibly challenging year for saving lives as our nation’s animal shelters continue to take in more pets than they adopt out. Tens of thousands of shelter animals – of all breeds, ages and personalities – are in desperate need of a home. ” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope is more than an adoption event; it is a lifeline for shelter animals. Please visit your local participating shelter to adopt or foster a pet this holiday season .”

According to the organization, the dog population at DAS is currently at 133% capacity and is attempting to reduce the number in preparation for some much-needed repairs.

Facility improvements have already begun in smaller areas, and DAS says it aims to keep dog capacity below 100% before updates begin in larger areas.

“As the City of Dallas continues to expand our facilities, we look within the community for opportunities to connect wonderful animals with loving forever homes. These animals desperately want to become valued members of a family,” said Paul Ramon, director of DAS. “ Additionally, if you can open your heart and home as a caregiver during the holidays, your support would be very meaningful to us and them. Together we can make a lasting difference.

All Dallas Animal Services adoptions are free, and DAS may be able to accommodate out-of-state adoptions.

Adoption options include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip and engraved ID tag.
