Novak Djokovic was in Miami Open in Lockdown mode of Itau on Thursday when he continued his chase for a record-breaking seventh title in Südflorida and a 100th tour level trophy.

Serbian defeated Sebastian Korda 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a quarter-finals that was postponed from Wednesday. At the age of 37 and 10 months, Djokovic is the oldest ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalist of sere history (since 1990) and exceeded Roger Federer, who reached the last four in Indian Wells and Miami at the age of 37 and seven months in 2019.

Djokovic was almost blueless in the opening set and only left one point behind his first delivery, which he placed with precise accuracy. The fourth seed closed the first set with style and won the last 12 points. According to Infosys ATP statistics, Djokovic saw 12 of his 22 services, which had won the one-hour, 22-minute match with 84 percent of his first servants.

“As good as you can feel about your surcharge,” said Djokovic when he thought about 83 percent of his first services. “I was incredible to serve the whole tournament very well. Especially today and I needed it because Sebastian only brought me to the race in the second set and he played very well from the back of the square, maybe not as many mistakes as in the first set.”

Korda raced 3-0 in the second set and later served 5: 3 for it. However, Djokovic increased his level, involved longer rallies at crucial moments and forced the errors of The American, which recorded two points from the recording of the set at 6-5.

Everything adds up

“It took some to get out of trouble. I was 0-3, 0/30, had some good service and put me in a position to break what I was doing,” said Djokovic. “Tie-Break could have been a game, but again serve got out of the trouble. 5/4, servant winner. 6/4, ace to end the match. I will take it out of the game today as a highlight.”

The Belgrade native now leads the 24-year-old Korda 2-0 in her Lexus ATP Head2head series. Her former encounter took place in the 2023 Adelaide final, where Korda held championship point before Djokovic stormed on a 6-7 (8), 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory.

In the PIF ATP ranking no. 5, Djokovic improved to 48-7 at the hardcourt event. Two victories that claim a seventh trophy in Miami, and first since triumphing in Crandon Park in 2016, Djokovic is aimed at breaking his tie with Andre Agassi for most titles at the ATP Masters 1000 event.

Djokovic in his eighth Miami semi-final and a record-injuring 79th place at Masters 1000 will face the next Grigor Dimitrov with the 14th seed, which he runs 12: 1 in her Lexus ATP Head2head series. Djokovic is 20: 1 in Miami after reaching the quarter -finals. His only loss came to his current coach Andy Murray in the 2009 final.
